Mauriss not the only buyer eyeing £300m NUFC takeover after Saudi withdrawal – The Times

By | 30th July 2020

I wouldn’t blame you if shut your laptop, turned off your phone and never read another takeover article again after the latest saga ended in tears, however a glimmer of hope has emerged for Newcastle United fans from The Times’ chief writer Henry Winter.

Winter, one of the more well respected journalists about (and there are very few these days after what’s just gone one!), is adamant there’s other interested parties waiting in the wings following the Saudis decision to withdraw their interest.

He claims that other seriously interested parties include TWO groups in the US, and states one (who are NOT backed by Henry Mauriss) have ‘long-standing’ interest in the club and the fund in place to do a deal:

While this may seem like a small consolation now the Saudi-backed bid has officially been pulled, it’s worth noting that Winter insisted last month that the club “will be sold” no matter what this summer.

Back in June he stated that a “US group with GB ties” who have “long-term interest in club and funds in place” were watching the Saudi takeover delay with “keen interest”.

Let’s hope these interested parties now step forward and quickly, otherwise we are most definitely facing another season under Mike Ashley’s tenure.

Either way it feels insignificant in comparison and awful timing given the season begins in six weeks time, however we can only hope Mike Ashley really will be gone one way or another this summer.
