Great news for Blyth Spartans and hopefully a positive step for a former promising young Newcastle player.
Newcastle United didn’t offer Callum Roberts a new deal in the summer and he was expected to sign for a League One or League Two club ahead of the new season.
However, when that didn’t happen, the winger instead joined Blyth Spartans on a non-contract basis.
He has been an instant hit, having already scored nine times.
Despite claims of League One clubs now looking to take him on, Blyth Spartans have now revealed that instead Callum Roberts has agreed to sign a contract with them.
Hopefully a decision that will benefit both parties.
Helping Blyth Spartans this season before the player getting a chance in League One or League Two.
Blyth Spartans announcement:
‘Blyth Spartans are absolutely delighted to announce Callum Roberts has signed a contract with the club.
The former Newcastle United youngster joined on a non-contract basis last month and has excelled in Green and White colours.
Roberts’ form, as well-documented, has attracted interest from the EFL, leading to speculation surrounding his short term future.
However, the 22-year-old has decided to commit by signing a contract with the club to delight of everyone involved with Blyth Spartans.
Since teaming up with Lee Clark’s side, Roberts has a magnificent record of nine goals in the same number of appearances.
Two of those nine games has seen him fire hat-tricks against Curzon Ashton and AFC Telford.
The club would like to place on record its massive gratitude to those who pay into the 1899 Club. Without this, it simply would not have been possible.’
