Some remarkable offside stats for Newcastle United after five games.
The official Premier League website publishing a table (see below) showing how many times each club have had somebody flagged offside so far.
What makes Newcastle’s offside stats all the more astonishing is when you also take into account other statistics.
Only one club has had less shots than Newcastle so far in the five games, Steve Bruce’s team and Wolves having had 50 each, with Norwich lowest on 48.
Whilst shots on target, Newcastle and Wolves have had 15 each in five games, Sheffield United the lowest on 14.
Little surprise then that Newcastle have scored only four goals, with so few shots.
As for offside, this is the table from the official Premier League site:
When you then look at which players make up that 20 offside total (four per game on average)
9 Miguel Almiron
3 Christian Atsu
3 Yoshinori Muto
1 Isaac Hayden
1 Jetro Willems
I think it suggests a real disconnect in the team with a lack of a decent plan in terms of attacking threat, especially when you put it together with the shots stats.
