Newcastle United haven’t considered making a move for Michael Carrick or Sean Dyche as potential replacements for manager Rafael Benitez, according to The Chronicle.

The newspaper revealed the update on their news and transfer centre [24/04; 08:45], claiming that the Magpies hierarchy have never considered either man.

A report from TEAMtalk on Tuesday claimed that Newcastle have both men on their list of potential replacements were Benitez to leave the club this summer.

However, The Chronicle claim that the Magpies’ focus remains 100% on keeping the Spaniard in his current post.

OPINION

This seems like a much more likely scenario than Newcastle having drawn up a list of candidates to replace Benitez that includes Carrick and Dyche. Would the Magpies really be looking to bring in a rookie manager like Carrick to replace someone of Benitez’s ilk? Surely not. Dyche, on the other hand, would be a tremendous replacement for Benitez if – heaven forbid – the Spaniard leaves the club this summer. He is a proven Premier League manager who has likely taken Burnley as far as they can go. However, it’s highly unlikely that Newcastle will be doing anything other than trying to persuade Benitez to stay where he is. They will know that they face a mass exodus of supporters if the Magpies boss did end up leaving the club. With that said, they probably haven’t sought out Dyche or Carrick just yet. However, the Burnley boss should be kept in mind if Benitez does walk away.
